Vehicles in German City Found Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Human Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Authorities stated they were contacted by a resident who found a vehicle in Hanau covered with red-colored substance

Approximately 50 vehicles have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.

Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.

Police say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The liquid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they stated.

Police then discovered many other smeared cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials say early analysis suggest the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.

"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the incident," they stated.

City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.

A high-ranking political figure stated the vandalism left him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of foreign heritage in 2020.
